Together for better help: good news for respite in Quebec!

The Fondation les petits trésors and the Fondation de l’autisme are pleased to announce that they are joining forces!

The Fondation les petits trésors and the Fondation de l’autisme are pleased to announce that they are joining forces and will work together to improve the availability of respite care in Quebec. Together, we will be able to support more organizations and families affected by mental health and autism spectrum disorder (ASD) issues.

The Fondation les petits trésors has been supporting research and child psychiatric care at the Rivière-des-Prairies Mental Health Hospital for over 40 years, and also offers awareness activities. For the past few years, it has also supported organizations that offer respite to families in Quebec.

For its part, the Fondation de l’autisme has always been committed to offering respite to Quebec families through its “Famille et Compagnie en Vacances” program, which was established 10 years ago. This program is a real breath of fresh air for families who live with a family member dealing with autism.

The arrival of the pandemic in March 2020 has shaken us all and has quickly brought to light the devastating impact of isolation for families who live with the challenges of mental health disorders or autism on a daily basis. The closing of specialized resources and the precariousness of funding for non-profit organizations have done the rest.

Greatly concerned by these important social issues, our two foundations quickly went into solution mode to find other ways to meet those needs despite the complexity of the situation.

The idea of pooling our efforts and merging became obvious and it is together, with enthusiasm and conviction, that we thought of and propelled this win-win partnership!

Strongly supported by our Boards of Directors, the two organizations came together, sharing a common vision and the conviction to have an even greater impact now, and in the future.

The new organization, which became official on December 3, 2021, retains the name Fondation les petits trésors and adds to its team Ms. Sophie Renaud, who previously held the position of Executive Director at the Fondation de l’autisme. Ms. Renaud will be responsible for the respite component and will focus her efforts on improving the offer to the community’s needs.

Our mission is more important than ever! Our new team is now ready to deploy all the necessary efforts to support families and organizations. We will continue to help and make a difference in child psychiatric mental health and autism throughout Quebec.
